There Was a “Loser” In Tonight’s Debate
Posted by Craig Fuller
While supporters will rally around their respective candidate, there does have to be a loser in tonight’s debate. But, the loser may not have been one of the candidates.
I think the media lost.
Both candidates demanded that the discussion needed to move to a higher plane. Barack Obama strongly admonished the “gotcha” approach by the media questions about whether comments made by someone the candidate had an association with, no matter how insignificant, needed explanation. Senator Obama clearly said in so many words, ask us about things that are relevant….that’s what the American people are concerned about. And, when Charlie Gibson told Hillary Clinton she had more time to comment on questions of people in Obama’s past, she said let’s move on and ABC went to a station break.
Now, it took the ABC questioners about an hour to get the message, but the discussion for the last 45 minutes of the debate was much more substantive than the first 45 minutes. One can only hope that future debates will start at a higher plane….like I said, we can hope.
