Clegg’s ‘Stick With Us’ Message to Nervous Liberal Democrats

The immediate aftermath of a British party leader’s party conference speech is a bad time to say anything critical. In 2007 Gordon Brown’s speech to the Labour Party – the first he made as Prime Minister – was really rather dismal and yet it was celebrated as a mini-triumph in the mass media. Only in the succeeding weeks did people start to point out the emperor was not wearing very much.

Jonathan Powell on the 2010 UK General Election

On Tuesday, 11th May, we were fortunate to have Jonathan Powell, former chief of staff to Prime Minister Tony Blair in our London offices to speak to an invited group of Ambassadors and diplomatic officials. As the negotiations continued over who would govern Britain, Mr Powell assessed the performance of all the parties in the 2010 General Election, and what it would mean for the future.
