Super Tuesday Week Quote Roundup

apco-election-coverageAs part of our coverage of campaign 2012, Priscilla Vanderveer is keeping an eye out for quotes that best sum up the sense of the race from week to week.

All the candidates had something to say after this week’s not-so-thrilling Super Tuesday. Although the night didn’t appear to be the game-ending delegate party at least one candidate was hoping for (or perhaps its more that the other candidates are pretending not to see the writing on the wall), the candidates won’t stop believing:

Romney avoids mentions of his GOP competitors…
“To the millions of Americans who look around and can only see jobs they can’t get and bills that they can’t pay, I have a message: You have not failed. You have a president that’s failed you, and that’s going to change.

Santorum on the end of freedom…
“Ladies and gentlemen, this is the beginning of the end of freedom in America. Once the government has control of your life, then they got you.”

Gingrich compares himself to a tortoise…
“There are lots of bunny rabbits that run through. I’m the tortoise. I just take one step at a time”

Paul on his threat to the status quo…
“The rest of the candidates support the status quo. Foreign policies never change. Monetary policy doesn’t change.”

And finally, someone who has seen her share of campaigns sums it up best:
“The worst campaign I’ve ever seen in my life. … I hate the fact that people think compromise is a dirty word.” –Former first lady Barbara Bush
