What’s the Right Size?
As you walked the floor of the CES show this year (#ces2012), it was hard not to be overwhelmed by the avalanche of devices of almost every conceivable size, shape, thickness, weight and feature. If last year was the year of the tablet’s rise, this year is…well…the muddling of everything. We have smart phones that are so big they are almost tablets and tablets that are so small they can almost fit in your pocket. We have super-slim, light and long-lasting PCs designed to challenge iPads, and tablets that are so powerful and feature-laden they could easily masquerade as PCs.
And don’t get us started on televisions. While it was hard to ignore the gargantuan new 3D displays, the show this year also saw the unveiling of ultra-slim wide-screen televisions using tablet display technology and super HD displays at four times the clarity of the current HD systems gracing many of our living rooms. So let’s get this right…now televisions are integrating in tablet-style displays, while tablets are moving toward the integration of 3D display technology.

Health, Wellness, Food Marketing and…Refrigerators?
We believe one of the most exciting trends in the digital world is the massive amount of convergence going on and the extent to which it is influenced by both the infusion of wireless data and integration with social media. At CES (#ces2012) this year, you were almost as likely to see a car or an oven as a tablet or a PC. At some level, that’s nothing new. Centuries-old durables like cars and washers were infused with electronics decades ago. But it was awfully hard at times not to take a step back at the amount of sophistication and usability that is coming and say “wow.”
As a firm with deep roots in public affairs and corporate responsibility and with health care as our largest global practice, we are well of the obesity crisis, the pressure on food producers to deliver healthy alternatives and the fierce debate going on about the appropriate level of regulatory oversight about how food products are marketed and sold.

Reflections from CES – The Mobile OS Wars
The 2012 edition of the Consumer Electronics Show (#CES) just wrapped in Las Vegas. APCO’s StudioOnline team was there in force, and although we were awfully busy supporting our clients, including show host Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) and its innovation movement (#imovement), we also took the opportunity to walk the floor, network with technology leaders and absorb the vibe.

Protect Your Social Investment from Hackers
On July 4, 2011, a group of hackers by the name of Scriptkiddies gained access to Fox News’ @FoxNewsPolitics Twitter feed, tweeting several notices that U.S. President Barack Obama had been assassinated in Iowa. In one day, we saw how a simple prank can turn into a national security threat involving the Secret Service.
